Tema Global Foundation transforms education with Tema Royal School library project

Tema Global Foundation, a registered non-profit organization with a strong presence in Maryland, USA, and members across the globe, has made significant strides in supporting the local community in Tema, Ghana.

In a recent community-driven initiative, the foundation adopted Tema Royal School, which has been facing challenges in providing adequate resources for its students.

Established 46 years ago, Tema Royal School has been in dire need of a library and educational materials. Recognizing this need, Tema Global Foundation, with the help of local stakeholders, refurbished the school’s library and supplied it with approximately 2,000 books.

This initiative aims to foster a reading culture among the students and enhance their educational experience. Meanwhile, to celebrate the completion of this project, Tema Global Foundation organized a community event that included a health screening and a friendly soccer match between the diaspora and the local residents of Tema.

This event not only marked the success of the library refurbishment but also strengthened community ties and promoted health awareness. Nonetheless, Tema Global Foundation, founded in 2022, is dedicated to supporting the youth of Tema by scouting and developing talents in arts, culture, music, and writing. The organization began its journey by feeding the  Prince George’s House Men’s Shelter in Capitol Heights, MD, on July 2, 2022, and has since expanded its efforts internationally.

With about 500 members, many of whom are in the diaspora, the foundation continues to make a positive impact on communities both locally and abroad. The refurbishment of Tema Royal School’s library is a testament to Tema Global Foundation’s commitment to improving educational opportunities and fostering community spirit. The foundation aims to bring more such transformative projects to fruition, empowering the youth and enriching the community.

Partey proud of teammates after victory over Chelsea

Partey proud of teammates after victory over Chelsea

Ghana midfielder, Thomas Partey, has praised his Arsenal teammates after the big win against Chelsea in the English Premier League on Tuesday night.

Partey started a Premier League for the first time since returning from injury as the Gunners recorded a 5-0 victory over the Blues to go three points clear at the top of the table.

Ben While and Kai Havertz scored a second-half brace each to add to Leandro Trossard’s first-half strike.

“It was a very good game, we went all out from the beginning because we knew how important this game was. If we don’t approach it right we are not able to win, but we did everything right and I’m really proud of the squad,” said Partey after the game.

The former Atletico midfielder also singled out German forward Kai Havertz for praise following his brace heroics.

“He’s a great player, he’s working a lot and you can see the work he’s doing. He deserves everything that comes along. I hope he can continue like that and finish the season strongly,” he said.

Partey is expected to start for Arsenal on Sunday in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Ahly Create History in CAFCL Semi Final

Continuing their dominance in African football, Al Ahly booked their spot in the 2024 CAF Champions League this weekend while PSL giants Mamelodi Sundowns fell short in their semi-final clash against Tunisian side Espérance Sportive de Tunis.

With Al Ahly and TP Mazembe heading to the Cairo International Stadium with a 0-0 aggregate scoreline, goals by Mohamed Abdelmonem, Wessam Ali and Akram Tawfik saw the Egyptian side emerge victorious in their second-leg semi-final fixture against the Congolese giants.

In turn, the Red Devils became the first side in history to qualify for the CAF Champions League final for the fifth season in succession.

Over in South Africa, ES Tunis recorded a 1-0 win against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld in their second-leg encounter on Friday night.

While the game was momentarily suspended due to bad weather, Raed Bouchniba’s 57th minute effort separated the two sides on the night despite the Brazilians’ dominance throughout the 90 minutes.

Despite falling short in the CAF Champions League, Masandawana earned their spot at the extended 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The Tshwane-side qualified via the ranking pathway alongside ES Tunis, while Al Ahly and Wydad AC booked their spot in the tournament as recent winners of the CAF Champions League.

2023 AFCON winners Ivory Coast rejoice after heroic final

2023 AFCON winners Ivory Coast rejoice after heroic final

Ivory Coast has won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, bringing to a close a tournament of surprises. Julien Adaye met some exultant fans in Abidjan after the Elephants’ victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

In the end, the Nigerian Super Eagles didn’t stand a chance against host nation Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. Abidjan’s Alassane Ouattara stadium was engulfed in a sea of orange.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time, the Ivorian Elephants came back determined, borne to victory by the cheers of tens of thousands of supporters, with Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller shooting the goals that secured their 2-1 win over the Eagles.

For countless supporters in the streets of Abidijan, the joys and woes of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) culminated in jubilation after the final whistle.

It had been a rocky road, with the Elephants coming close to elimination in the group stage. But the host nation experienced miracle after miracle, finally securing their third coronation.

Winning was particularly significant for Haller, who in the past year overcame testicular cancer and suffered the agony of missing out on the German Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund on the final day of last season.

Renewed spirits with a new coach

Joy was written all over the faces of the fans in Ivory Coast’s booming metropolis of Abidjan.

“The match was good, we are happy, very happy even,” said one. “The 1-0 couldn’t crush our hopes, we kept up until the end. Now we thank God for showing us his grace.”

“Thanks to God we got our third star. We are really happy, we thank the coach,” another said. Interim coach Emerse Fae had stepped in when the Elephants sacked Jean-Louis Gasset at the end of a disastrous group phase that nearly finished them off. The 40-year-old Frenchman was part of the team that made it to the finals in 2006 but lost against Egypt.

“Now we’re due some respect,” one fan said. “We’ve got our third star.”

Roller-coaster tournament

Others were still at a loss for words after their team’s roller-coaster tournament. “This is beyond my comprehension. I am overwhelmed,” said one, adding that she had not lost her confidence until victory was won.

In a tournament of surprises that saw many big names defeated in the group stage, Ivory Coast’s Elephants, reinvigorated after their near-exit, held the biggest surprise of all.
